Painting is where I started out at Art School in the 1980s (Bath Academy of Art in Corsham, now part of Bath Spa University). The paintings in this section were made in the time since my MA at the Cat Hill Campus. Middlesex University, 2005-07. Even though I had been living in London for many years, the focus of my painting was always on the land. I rarely made anything about the urban landscape. Those I did make were about the elements, for example ‘Storm on the North Circular’ and the ‘Tower Blocks Face the Wind’ below. I returned to Cornwall in 2019 and since then, maybe because I can be in direct contact with the land, I painted less and began instead to make 3D work, often with objects and materials found on walks close to home.
